I choose the column Locking into the Magic of Legos http://www.cincinnati.com/story/opinion/columnists/krista-ramsey/2014/02/15/krista-locking-into-the-magic-of-legos/5521245/
This column
is about children and their Lego habits. The column also goes into detail on
how Legos are beneficial to children and their intelligence. The children also
learn to be creative and determined by building what is on the instructions or
by building freestyle.
In this column the line I think is
best written is “Legos let them claim the two
things adults don't even realize they need: space and silence.” This line impacts
the reader because the diction of the passage is very informal and concrete.
Therefore if the reader was a child or an adult this passage might be very
persuading to them to get Legos. The syntax of the line was at the end where
she used a colon, this was to list off things a child needs and what they could
potentially have with Legos.
The style of this column is casual. I know that her column is casual
because she relates to everyday life also she does not use that much elevated
diction or any sentence structures. In one of her sentences she states, “Then feet will pad up the basement stairs to show parents
what's been created. And they'll pad right back down to tear it apart and move
on to freestyle.” I know this line is casual because she is talking about
everyday life, the days that the kid gets a new Lego set and he/she rushes
upstairs to show his/her parents.
